Introduction
Currently Play Therapists are not regulated in Ireland and therefore do not have a register. However, PTIrl members are affiliated to PTUK and therefore we are members of the PTUK register and meet all the Professional Standards Authority PSA regulations and standards necessary to be on this register. The PSA promotes the health, safety and well-being of users of health and social care services and is recognised as being in the forefront of health regulation worldwide. This means that members of the public and employers can choose a Play Therapist, a Practitioner in Therapeutic Play Skills or a Filial Play Coach belonging to a register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, (PSA). for Health and Social Care. The PSA is the overseer of all Health and Social Care Professions in the UK.
Until Ireland has its own Government regulation of play therapists, the above register provides the de facto standards for PTIrl. see www.playtherapyregister.org.uk
